Legends of Ramdev

When it comes to Ramdev, there are a few legends with regard to his miraculous powers. It is said that when he was a child, his father King Ajamal ordered a toy maker to build a wooden horse. The toy maker after taking a hefty amount cheated the king and used a cheaper cloth to cover the wooden toy horse. When Ramdev sat on the wooden horse, the toy horse went up in the air and the cloth disappeared. It is believed that the horse got life due to his powers.

Another legend has it that when a few saints from Mecca refused to have dinner in other utensils, their utensils which were in Mecca were seen flying towards them. Following that episode, Ramdev was known as Ram Shah Peer.

When is Ramdev Jayanti and Teja Dashmi?

Ramdev Jayanti and Teja Dashmi is a regional public holiday in the Indian state of Rajasthan on the tenth day of the month of Bhadrapad in the Hindu calendar. This means it falls in either August or September in the Gregorian calendar.

Traditions of Ramdev Jayanti and Teja Dashmi

This public holiday combines the festivals related to two important Hindu folk deities of Rajasthan.

Ramdev Jayanti

Baba Ramdev is a Hindu folk deity from Rajasthan, India. He was a fourteenth-century ruler, said to have miraculous powers, who devoted his life to the upliftment of the downtrodden and poor people of society. He is regarded as an incarnation of Krishna.

On Ramdev Jayanti, the birth date of Ramdev, a fair is held at the Ramdevra temple, the resting place of Ramdev, attended by hundreds of thousands of devotees, both Hindu and Muslim.

Teja Jayanti

Veer Teja or Tejaji is an even older Rajasthani folk deity. He is considered one of the major eleven incarnations of Shiva and worshipped as a deity in rural Rajasthan.

Veer Teja was born in the mid-13th century in Khadnal, Rajasthan. Teja was the son of King Baksaji.

Legend has it that Teja died in 1304 from wounds inflicted while trying to rescue a herd of cows from a group of raiders. The story says that while he lay dying, he allowed a snake to bite his tongue, which was the only part of his body undamaged in the fight. In return, the snake promised that no person or animal would die from a snakebite if they sought the blessings of Teja.

रामदेव जी की समाधि

रामदेव जी ने 37 वर्ष की आयु में वीएस 1442 में भाद्रपद शुक्ल एकादशी पर राजस्थान के रामदेवरा पोखरण से 10 किलोमीटर पर समाधि ली। दलीबाई मेघवाल समुदाय के उनके अनुयाई हैं। उन्हें भी उनकी कब्र के पास दफनाया गया और कहा जाता है कि उन्होंने रामदेव से 2 दिन पहले समाधि ली थी।

इस मंदिर परिसर में डाली बाई और उनके कुछ अन्य प्रमुख शिष्यों की तरह उनके शिष्यों की भी समाधि बनी हुई है। इस परिसर में 5 मुस्लिम पीरों की कब्र भी है, जो मक्का से आए थे। इसमें एक सोतेला कुआं भी है, जिसके जल के बारे में श्रद्धालुओं का मानना है कि इसमें चिकित्सा शक्तियां हैं।

बाबा रामदेव जी का विशाल मंदिर जैसलमेर के रुणिचा में फैला हुआ है, जहां दूर-दूर से श्रद्धालु ने नमन करने आते हैं। रामदेव जी सामुदायिक सद्भाव और अमन के प्रतीक हैं। बाबा का अवतरण विक्रम संवत 1409 को भाद्रपद शुक्ल दूज के दिन तोमर वंश राजपूत और रुणिचा के शासक अजमल जी के घर हुआ। उनकी माता का नाम मीणादे मीनल देवी था।

रामदेव जयंती महत्व तथा मान्यताएं

मुसलमान रामदेव को रामसापीर  के रूप में मानते हैं। कहा जाता है कि उनके पास चमत्कारी शक्तियां थी और उनकी ख्याति दूर-दूर तक थी। किंवदंती है कि मक्का से पांच पीर रामदेव जी की शक्ति का परीक्षण करने आए थे।

रामदेव ने उनका स्वागत किया उनसे अपने साथ दोपहर का भोजन करने का अनुरोध किया उसने यह कहते हुए मना कर दिया कि वे केवल अपने निजी बर्तनों के साथ ही भोजन करते हैं,जो मक्का में थे।

इस पर रामदेव जी ने मुस्कुराते हुए कहा कि देखो तुम्हारे बर्तन आ रहे हैं। और उन्होंने देखा कि उनके खाने के कटोरे मक्का से हवा में उड़ते हुए आ रहे हैं। उनकी क्षमता और शक्तियों के बारे में आश्वस्त होने के बाद उन्होंने उन्हें श्रद्धांजलि अर्पित की और उनका नाम रामशाह पीर रखा।

पांच पीर उनकी शक्तियों का परीक्षण करने के लिए आए, उन से इतने प्रभावित हुए कि उन्होंने उनके साथ रहने का फैसला किया, रामदेव जी समाधि के पास उनकी कब्र स्थित है। रामदेवजी सभी मनुष्य की समानता में विश्वास करते थे, वह ऊंच-नीच अमीर हो या गरीब हो।
